Hair Restoration Procedures

Hair fall is a common occurrence. While we lose a few hair strands daily, excessive hair loss (more than 100 strands per day) can cause concern. The actual problem arises when new hair doesn’t grow back after shedding. It can be due to illness, hormonal changes, stress, lifestyle pressure, aging, genetics, etc.

It is always recommended to consult a dermatologist if you experience severe hair loss and hair thinning. Identifying the root cause and treating both problems is vital to improving overall health and promoting hair growth.

Causes for Hair Loss
  • Genetics
  • Stress
  • Lack of nutritional diet
  • Not enough sleep
  • Fungal infections on the scalp
  • Hormonal changes
  • Incorrect haircare products or methods
  • Hairstyles that pull the hair strands from the follicles
  • Thyroid
  • Other medical conditions/ treatments, etc.
Types of Hair Loss

A few common hair loss types are as follows:

  • Androgenic Alopecia: It affects anyone and is called pattern baldness. It is usually hereditary.
  • Telogen Effluvium: It is where you shed extensive amounts of hair in a short period, usually after a stressful event.
  • Alopecia Areata: This hair loss is caused by an autoimmune disease that affects the head and body hair.
  • Anagen Effluvium: Rapid hair loss due to medical treatments like chemotherapy.

Fortunately, many conditions of hair loss can be treated with moderate to great results. The treatment method depends on the reason for hair loss, age, gender, and other medical ailments.

Hair Restoration Treatments

The doctor will examine the scalp and may ask for a blood test (if required) to determine the cause of hair loss. The treatments for hair restoration can be non-invasive, minimally invasive, and surgical procedures. Sometimes, doctors recommend a combination of treatments to get the best results. Some of the treatments used at our advanced skin and hair clinic are as follows:

  • Medication
The doctor will prescribe topical applications like Min-oxi-dil to use on the scalp to promote hair growth. Oral medication like fin-ast-eri-de is prescribed only for male pattern baldness, and spi-ron-ola-ctone is for female pattern baldness. Both pills have some side effects and take a few months to show the results.
  • Hair Transplantation
Hair transplantation is a surgical process recommended for people with visible baldness. Hair strands from the healthier part of the scalp are removed and transplanted to the affected area. The procedure requires a few weeks of recovery time and needs special care to prevent infection.
  • P-R-P Therapy
P-R-P (Pl-at-el-et Rich Pl-as-ma) is extracted from the blood drawn from your body and injected into the scalp where the hair is thinning. It is a regenerative therapy and requires multiple sessions. The results take time to show (a few weeks to six months or more), but there will be a visible improvement in hair growth. Your hair will also be healthier.
  • Direct Hair Fusion
DHF is a non-surgical procedure for hair restoration. It is a cosmetic process where a custom-made membrane is fitted onto the bald surface. The result looks natural and is easily manageable. Even though this is not a medical procedure, it has to be performed by trained experts to prevent side effects.
  • Microneedling
A microneedling device contains hundreds of tiny needles that prick the skin to stimulate healing. Microneedling the scalp will stimulate hair growth by activating the follicles. It is a suitable treatment for mild to moderate hair loss for people aged between 20 and 35. Microneedling is combined with other treatments, like applying min-oxi-dil twice a day to achieve the best results.
  • Laser Therapy
Low-level laser therapy is useful for treating alopecia areata, hereditary hair loss, and hair loss due to chemotherapy. It is a painless and non-invasive procedure but requires several sessions and takes time to deliver results.
  • Injections
Cor-ti-cos-ter-oids are injected into the balding areas to stimulate hair growth in people with alopecia areata. You will need an injection multiple times every four to eight weeks for the hair follicles to activate and promote hair growth.
  • Nanofat Therapy
Nano fat is a regenerative therapy where fat is extracted from a part of your body and processed to derive stem cells. These are injected into the scalp to promote hair growth. It is a one-time procedure and delivers long-lasting results.
  • GFC Therapy
Growth Factor Concentrate is also a regenerative therapy similar to P-R-P. Here, the pl-as-ma is further processed to extract growth factors injected into the scalp. This treatment is more effective and requires several treatment sessions.
  • Dietary Supplements
Proper diet, sleep, and exercise can reduce hair loss and promote growth. Based on your blood reports, the doctor may prescribe supplements like biotin, zinc, iron, vitamins, etc..
