Scars are formed when the body heals from an injury or wound. They can be in different shapes, sizes, colors, and textures. While some scars fade over time, others are permanent and have to be reduced through medical procedures.
A scar appears when the skin repairs itself by growing new tissue to pull the wound together or fill the gaps. In some instances, excessive collagen is produced to repair the wound, leading to a scar. Dark-skinned people are more likely to have scars, and so do people with red hair.
